21 Dec From Digital Sketch to Physical Structure: Inside Our Fabrication Process
A lot of what we do at Soluna Productions starts on a screen, but it doesn’t stay there for long.
Fabrication is the bridge between imagination and reality. Before an installation ever reaches a venue or event space, it goes through a detailed digital design phase using CAD (computer-aided design). This allows us to map out scale, structure, materials, and mounting points with precision before anything is cut or built.
Once a design is finalized, CNC cutting comes into play. CNC machines translate digital designs into exact physical components, cutting wood, plastics, or composites with a level of accuracy that’s impossible to achieve by hand alone. This process lets us create complex shapes, repeatable parts, and clean edges that hold up in real-world environments.
What we love most about CNC fabrication is the freedom it gives creativity. Curves, layers, textures, and modular systems become possible without sacrificing structural integrity. The result is artwork and installations that are both visually striking and engineered to last.
Fabrication isn’t just a technical step for us. It’s part of the creative process itself, where ideas become tangible and concepts take shape.
